Well, that was quite a week. After having Vaquero in TF and getting several results with him, last week was Petrescu's time. He started off his TF period with a heat check in Switserland, where he easily won Kesch Peak Climb #20, but of course the big thing was Petrescu's ultimate goal this season: Race of the Minutemen.
And what a show it was. Except from the sprinting stages, Petrescu finished on the podium in all 4 stages, winning 3 of them. So after a few years of just being short(Petrescu already finished second(twice) in RotM and fourth, as well as a second place in Fast on Wheels) he finally did it. He surprised me with the display of power and strength at which he destroyed his competitors. And to complete the party, this new load of OCM points landed him a spot on top of the Romanian leaderboards and the Romanian cycling federation announced that Petrescu will be allowed to wear the National champions jersey for the time being.
And what do we do now? Well, we've blown right through the division 3 standings. While we were completely new to this division, we're nearly at the top already. First of all we'll go for a nice trip down under in Kangaroo Tour, where Petrecu will look to continue his good form. After that, Petrescu's goal will be Monte Petrano ITT on day 72, where is a clear favourite once more. He will start recharging his TF right after that to choose a new goal for next season.
Which tour do you think Petrescu should aim for? Cymru Taith? Giro di Montalbano? Norway Tour? Or maybe even Perm?
We will decide on that later on. For now, we can enjoy the new jersey in our palmares and give the other captains, Piet van Dongen & Federico Vaquero a chance to show their qualities. Team, I'm proud of you!
